Forgiveness

Continuing forgiveness

Why continuing forgiveness? Even when we become Christians we fall short of God's grace and commit sin. We should, when we realise that we have done wrong, ask for God's forgiveness and genuinely repent of our wrong doing.
It must be recognised that though we have asked forgiveness from God we are still sinners, this does not mean that we are not forgiven just that we are not perfect. A very wise man that I respect very much once told me when I was constantly falling into sin after becoming a new Christian that he too was no different to me and he is still in "God's school of learning". I have since lost touch with this man but I feel sure that 10 years on from that day as it is he would still say the same thing to me. I am glad that I am in "God's school of learning" for while I am there then I am moving on with Christ and not becoming hardened to sin and wrongdoing.
Some people believe that when they ask Jesus into their lives and pray the sinners prayer then they no longer sin this is not true. When we read the bible we see that Paul the apostle counted himself the worst sinner. This is what he said of himself in 1 Timothy Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. (1 Timothy 1:15-16 NIV)We consider Paul a great man of God and an example to many yet here he is saying that even though he is saved by Christ he is a sinner, are we any different to him? No we are no different we are the same as he, a child of the Living God who forgives all because he loves us.
So how do we deal with sin after we become Christians? The same way as when we first found Christ by asking for forgiveness. By asking for forgiveness every time we become aware of a sin that we have committed we become pure again in God's sight remember he cannot look upon someone who is sinning without a contrite, repentant heart.
